The 2nd Graders at Enterprise Elementary are experiencing a “new” way to read and listen to their weekly reading stories this year. Thanks to DonorsChoose.org and U.S. Cellular the students are using iShuffles when listening to the reading stories from their basal reader. The 2nd grade class was awarded 4 iShuffles when Mrs. Schuler submitted a proposal for the mp3 players. Each week a new story, along with the story’s vocabulary and other reading activities are downloaded onto the players. In order for more students to be able to use the players each day, splitters are used. Each student has his/her own earbuds that are plugged into the splitters. While half the class is “shuffling” through the reading activities, the rest of the class is listening to other reading materials using portable cd players. The 2nd graders and their teacher feel very fortunate to be able to experience reading in this unique way.
